Desensitizing Example

Our kit idea was born from my nightly ritual of packing up whatever I am going to take to the barn in the morning. Since I board my horse about thirty minutes away, it became a matter of convenience to put everything together in a totebag so that I could get an early start with minimal preparation on the mornings I head to the barn. I noticed my tote bags took on particular themes, depending on what I was going to work on with Dylan that day. I found that I kept having new ideas about what I could do to increase the bond that I had started to develop with my new gelding.

Fun with Ball Example

We had a great start but got interrupted with the heaviest rainfall in years (we don't have any indoor facilities where I board), so after three weeks with next to no saddle time, I decided to do some things to re-establish our relationship before attempting anything else - and that is how the desensitizing kit came to be.

But now that my ranch horse has shown me that he can handle a crazy woman riding bareback with a wildly flapping poncho waving over his head, as well as a bandanna tied to either side of his bridle so that they flap annoyingly in the wind, I decided it was time to find some fun things for us to do together. Often there is nobody around to trail ride with and we spend a lot of our time in the arena because honestly, after breaking five ribs, I am still regaining my confidence level. And Dylan is helping me do that. So the fun kit became all of the different ways I could think of for me and Dylan to just have fun together, doing stuff in the arena.

Every kit we create comes from ideas that I have had while spending time with my horse - and in every case we have personally tested the items and continue to use them during our time together. The bonding kit contains items that you use to bathe and groom your horse that go an "extra" step beyond the basic brush and curry comb. Spending down time with your horse allows you to work on your bond in a different way - he will come to view your time together as something to look forward to. Grooming is a social activity that takes place among herdmates. While you are his leader, you and him are a two member herd and grooming is a great way to get your horse to feel comfortable and relaxed in your presence. I have been working on a kit for folks who enjoy trail riding and I am very happy to report that we also have an awesome trail kit now available.

Aqua Clip on Saddle

Each tote bag includes an aqua clip as pictured. This clever gadget allows you to take a bottled water and attach it either to your saddle or simple tuck it into your waist band - for a handy way to carry a drink. In addition to the special items that have been chosen for each different theme, every tote bag also comes with a hand towel for you, a sponge for your horse, and an insulated lunch bag that is great for carrying both horse and human treats. Dylan gets his Mrs. Pastures Cookies for Horses and vitamin pellets in a sandwhich bag and I have my trail bar and Kashi fruit bar readily available - so I never get shaky from not having a snack readily available. You can also use it to pack a lunch and the strap gives you an easy way to hang it on your saddle horn or tie it to your saddle if you are headed down the trails.

Our durable and stylish totebags printed with our Golden Cross Ranch Brand Company Logo, "Having Fun With Your Horse" Company Slogan and "Philippians 4:8" Scripture, come in red, hunter green, and royal blue. I think the Scripture reference is so appropriate: "And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." And that is what we are trying to do, including our relationship with these most admirable and lovely of God's creatures...

All items for each kit fit into the tote bag for portability and convenience. We have also added a special feature to the desensitizing kit - training cards that are available in an adobe acrobat pdf file, containing pictures of Dylan and I using the contents of the desensitizing kit that also including training tips, ideas and safety information. All kits come with an instruction sheet included to give you some ideas to help you get started. We hope you have many hours of enjoyment using your kit to HAVE FUN WITH YOUR HORSE!
